[Linux Mint 9] Koneksi USB Modem EVDO Rev.A SmartFren AC682


Senjata baru untuk online kali ini adalah USB Modem EVDO Rev.A SmartFren AC682. Dengan kecapatan maksimum download up to 3,1 Mbps dan upload up to 1,8 Mbps. Bagaimana koneksi atau settingannya di Linux? Modem usb bermerk ZTE ini ternyata cukup mudah dikoneksikan dengan Operating System Linux. Beberapa tutorial membahas koneksi SmartFren AC682 dengan Linux Ubuntu, Linux Puppy, dan kali ini akan saya bahas dengan Linux Mint.

Saya (masih) menggunakan Linux Mint 9 Isadora dengan kernel 2.6.32-21-generic, berikut langkahnya:

  1. Koneksikan SmartFren AC682 pada port USB yang tersedia
  2. Buka aplikasi Terminal pada Linux Mint, login sebagai root
    zaldi@zaldi-vanbook ~ $ sudo su
    [sudo] password for zaldi:

  3. Periksa sambungan USB dengan perintah lsusb

  4. Bus 002 Device 003: ID 19d2:ffde ONDA Communication S.p.A. menandakan SmartFren AC682 berfungsi sebagai storage atau media penyimpanan. Untuk beralih fungsi menjadi modem, klik kanan - Eject ikon SmartFren pada Nautilus (Explorer), atau dengan perintah eject /dev/sr0

  5. Periksa lagi sambungan USB dengan perintah lsusb, harusnya sudah berubah menjadi Bus 002 Device 003: ID 19d2:ffdd ONDA Communication S.p.A. seperti dibawah ini

  6. Berikan modul baru pada kernel

  7. Periksa fungsi sambungan SmartFren AC682, dengan perintah dmesg|grep usb

  8. Instal wvdial dengan perintah apt-get install wvdial
  9. Periksa SmartFren AC682 sebagai fungsi modem

  11. Mulai koneksi dengan perintah wvdial dan tunggu hingga muncul IP dan DNS address
